During the years of cooperation with many customers in area of CNC machining, we’v found that some customers are very professional in the question of, how tolerances effect cost of CNC machining, but there also are lots of customers are not very clear about that, even though they have / they are very skilled in CAD designing.

At the begining when customer inquiry manufacturers of CNC machining, they usually send 3d model or pdf 2D drawings and inform manufacturers the quantity they need, then judge the prices with different grade, and choose the most ‘REASOANABLE’ prices they think. Maybe they are right, also maybe they are not. There is another important point of cost management, is the very price real ‘reasonable’? Sometimes, some product doesn’t have any high precision part, if the designer designs the product’s or parts’ dimensions too precision, but not consider actual application, that’ll be cost wasting, manufacturers will sort out product/parts after CNC machining and put them into the category of rejected, reject ratio will be higher, undoubtedly price quoted to customers is higher, too. So in this regard, sometimes ‘reasonable’ is not reasonable. We should be careful and choose the practical tolerances for ourt products or parts, and make our produtcs more competitive.
